Almanac Poetry: Golf – 6

What is this game that you gave up golf for
Away from rolling dunes and cellar door
Are there any rules, do you keep a score?

What draws you to the morning traffic jam
And glues your ears to breakfast news program
Steadily putting on one more kilogram.

In office blocks there are no mown fairways
There’s just powerpoint and cupcake share days
And anxious people having bad hair days.

Yet bills still bob along on rapid flows
Careering in and out your lifestyle grows
And time runs down the drain. Yes, there it goes.

What is this game that you gave up golf for
Away from rolling dunes and cellar door
Are there any rules, do you keep a score?
