Almanac Netball: The 400 game netballing sisters from Kapunda

Tabatha Ryan and Penny Ryan (back in the day!)


The Kapunda Netball Club have received outstanding service to their club over many years from sisters Tabatha MacKenzie and Penny Chappell. Both Tabatha and Penny have each played 400 games for the Bombers, a remarkable achievement.

Highly respected goal-shooter, Tabatha is the first Kapunda netballer to reach this incredible achievement, and the first in the Barossa, Light and Gawler Netball Association history to do so. She did this in May of this year.

Penny, close on Tabatha’s heels, played her 400th game last Saturday (19 June). Penny, a dominant mid-court player, has achieved outstanding success at Kapunda winning the BLG Netball Association Senior One Best & Fairest six times, and she has also played in six Senior One premierships for her team.

Both sisters played in the last BLG side that won the SA Country Netball Champs in 2013.


They are members of the well known sporting Ryan family from the region.
