Almanac Music: Vale – Keith Reid: co-writer of ‘A Whiter Shade Of Pale’

Vale: Keith Reid – Lyricist of ‘A Whiter Shade Of Pale’

After the passing of Gary Brooker, in February 2022, who wrote the music to one of the greatest songs ever recorded in ‘A Whiter Shade Of Pale’ for Procul Harum, it has been revealed his co-writer, lyricist Keith Reid, has recently passed away as a result of cancer.

Brooker and Reid were a formidable songwriting team for Procul Harum, Reid providing the haunting, mystical and surreal lyrics, while Brooker produced some of the most memorable classically influenced airs ever recorded in popular music.

Procol Harum sold millions of records in a career lasting over fifty years.

Interestingly, Keith Reid was one of the co-writers of John Farnham’s big hit ‘You’re the Voice’, something I was totally unaware of.
