Almanac Lunches: Premierships, footy and cricket, John Coleman, lunch and stories with Greg Brown
It was another cracking Footy Almanac lunch at the All Nations Hotel yesterday with guest speaker Greg Brown, Essendon 1965 premiership player.
With John Harms directing the show we were delighted by the responsive insights into Greg’s life and sporting career, incorporating all its highs and lows.
His time at Essendon during their powerhouse era in the 60s was enlightening especially the love he and the players had for the great John Coleman. Greg was very emotional speaking about Coleman and the effect he had on players not only as a coach but as a role model in life. We learnt a lot about John Coleman the man, very inspiring.
Greg also played for Essendon CC against Northcote in probably the greatest ever VCA District final ever played when Bill Lawry with his barnstorming innings won the match for Northcote. Notably, Greg has the distinction of playing in premierships for both the Essendon FC and Essendon CC.
The stories could have gone on forever.
Thank you Greg Brown for sharing your wonderful experiences.
