Almanac (Local) Cricket: Pomborneit Cricket Club 2020/21 Season- Pre-Season Review

Welcome to our 2020/21 pre-season review, keeping you updated on all the happenings at the Pomborneit Cricket Club, published with thanks to John Harms and the team at footyalmanac.com.au.

Another busy off-season at the Pomborneit Cricket Club. Two new teams, namely adding a senior women’s team and a second under 13 boys team sees the club fielding 8 teams, as well as our Woolworths Blast program, in the 2020/21 season.

ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING

The club held it’s Annual General Meeting on the 25th of August via Zoom due to COVID restrictions. The committee was re-elected unchanged, David Murphy returning as President for a third year in this term and 7th season as president overall, Luke Reynolds as Secretary for a 3rd year in this term, his 19th year in the role all up, Julie Whytcross as Treasurer for a third season, Matthew Richardson as Vice President for a third year and Patrick Johnstone as Junior Vice-President for a second season.

2019/20 ANNUAL REPORT & GRAND FINAL DVD’s

Many thanks to Steve Murphy for compiling our memorable 2019/20 season into print. Full of reviews and colour photos, the Annual Report looks magnificent, clocking in at 100 pages. “Churchy” spent many hours editing the DVD, a wonderful keepsake of the Division 1 & Division 3 flag wins.

WOMEN’S TEAM

A most exciting development is the club adding a senior women’s team for the 2020/21 season. Much work has gone into this over the past year, and with the successful launch of our junior girls team last season it was important to be able to offer a senior team for the girls to aspire to. The team will be playing in the new Colac District Cricket Association women’s competition in a 10 week season. A fantastic group has been assembled with several competitive yet highly fun training sessions so far.

women’s players Heidi Van Es, Tayla Reynolds, Hannah Whytcross & Narelle Place

Narelle Place has been appointed as the club’s inaugural women’s team captain. She has previously played at Under 16 and Division 3 level cricket for Pomborneit. The younger sister of Division 1 captain Grant, Narelle’s appointment makes for the unique occurrence of a brother and sister captaining the club’s top men’s and women’s teams at the same time.

The club is thrilled to secure the services of Grace Lee as coach of both our senior women’s and junior girls teams. A current player at Premier women’s team Essendon Maribyrnong Park, Grace has coached the Western Waves Under 14 girls rep team for the last 6 years and is the current Female Development Officer for the Western Waves region.

THE RETURN OF THE PCC MONOGRAM

With a new order of caps taking place, the club has adopted the PCC monogram used by Pomborneit teams from the 1930’s to the 1960’s, a very successful era in club history. The monogram will also find it’s way on to shirts and club apparel, alongside the Bulls logo. A strong symbol of our past, present and future.

AUSTRALIAN CRICKET INSTITUTE PARTNERSHIP

The club is excited to announce that we have partnered with the Australian Cricket Institute, enabling access for our junior coaches to the ACI’s Coach Assist Platform, full of fun and engaging sessions and drills to help develop junior players. In addition, all junior members will get free access to hundreds of videos, interviews with professional players and regular live online coaching sessions.

PRE-SEASON TRAINING

Unable to train indoors, training has been held at the club under COVID restrictions, including groups of no more than 10, registering attendance online and the clubrooms and canteen being closed. We hope to have some announcements soon about opening up the clubrooms, meals after training etc.

12th MAN CLUB

The club’s coterie group the “12th man club” has now passed 40 members, raising valuable funds for the club as we look to continually improve our facilities and make the clubroom extension a reality. Many thanks to Marlin and Caitlin Walsh for adding a voucher for the Steakroad Bar and Grill to the monthly cash prizes on offer. Contact Churchy, Dave or Luke if you’d like to be involved in all the fun.
