Almanac Footy: The 2021 AFL Draft, Night One

The AFL Draft for 2021 got underway last night with the top 20 picks emerging after a night that mixed the expected with a couple of father/son choices and the odd bit of horse trading.

North Melbourne followed expectations by choosing South Australian midfielder Jason Horne-Francis as No. 1 pick. The Western Bulldogs snared Sam Darcy while Collingwood took Nick Daicos, both under the father/son rule.

The Draft continues tonight. We’ll aim to be back tomorrow with the outcome of that process.

We’ll do our best to publish two books in the lead-up to Christmas 2021. The Tigers (Covid) Almanac 2020  and the 2021 edition to celebrate the Dees’ magnificent premiership season(title is up for discussion at the moment!). These books will have all the usual features – a game by game account of the Tigers and Demons season – and will also include some of the best Almanac writing from these two Covid winters.
