Almanac Football: This jumper puts the ‘red’ in the Roys!

G’day Almanackers,

This customised version of the famous Fitzroy jumper with FFC monogram substituted out for the hammer and sickle that most notably featured on the flag of the USSR has done the rounds for many years. Ed Carmine put a call out on Twitter and most of our ‘nackers tweeters came up short in helping to establish the who/what/where/why of how this jumper came to be (though Ian Syson may have a lead).

Do any of the less tweet-inclined members of our community have insights into this work? Let us know and we’ll try to help Ed get to the bottom of the mystery!

  1. I don’t know, but I WANT IT SO BAD!!!!

  2. Fitzroy Reds were well known on the cricketing field, though I don’t have much knowledge of their footballing exploits.

Does anybody have a good grasp of the history of Eureka Youth League, or similar bodies?

    Glen!

  3. Getting nothing back from the likely types I’ve contacted.

  4. Glen! the Reds are incorporated into the current Fitzroy FC playing in the VAFA…not sure if there will be any links there, but there’s always no harm in asking I suppose.
