Almanac Cricket – WBBL: Adelaide Strike(r)s again!

In the end, the bookies got it right: the match would be a close run thing with Adelaide Strikers slight favourites to come out on top of Brisbane Heat. And so it was with the home team winning by just 3 runs, the match going down to the very last ball before being decided in front of an Adelaide WBBL record crowd of 12,379.

Adelaide have now won back-to-back titles after defending what looked like a quite modest score of 5/125. In the end, just two or three metres stood between Brisbane and victory. Having dispatched the first delivery she received for six, Mikayla Hinkley tried to do it again with five runs required off the penultimate delivery of the innings only to be caught just inside the boundary. So close and yet so far! But isn’t that the beauty of sport?

It was a mighty even contest from first ball to the last. Either side could have won. Dramatic moments through out, especially TMac lighting up the stumps twice in two balls to make a victory possible. Who needs a run fest when a lower scoring contest always produces the goods. Back to back is a fantastic achievement for this group and their supporters. Well done.
