Almanac Cricket: The new season is underway

The oddity that is 2020 sees the footy season lingering right through October and even well into November in the case of the NRL. Meanwhile, the new cricket season is already underway.

The Australian Women’s T20I and ODI teams have just completed three match series against the NZ Women’s Team recording 2-1 and 3-0 victories respectively. In winning all three ODIs, Meg Lanning’s team equalled the 21-game winning streak of Ricky Ponting’s men’s team back in the 2000s. And to reinforce their supremacy in these formats, the Aussie girls did it without star all-rounder Elyse Perry, who missed all six matches through injury, and without Lanning in the final match.

Meanwhile, the 2020/21 Marsh Sheffield Shield season begins in Adelaide this weekend. The first four rounds of the competition will all be played in Adelaide, a cricketing bonanza for lucky SA fans!

The link to the Shield matches is not working for me. Great summary of Australia’s recent success on the ODI matches.

  2. Sorry about that, Daryl. All fixed.

The Australian Women’s team is magnificent to watch. Healy has taken her glovework, let alone her batting, to an extremely high level.

Cannot wait for the Sheffield Shield, so glad the players pushed for it to go ahead now instead of after the BBL, and as a Kayo subscriber thrilled they are showing every ball of every Shield game!

Have been following the Shield matches via cricinfo regularly. Would like to get down to the venue but too much on for a retired chap (golf and NFL on a Monday morning . . ) Maybe next round. Some very interesting scoreboards. Fantastic doubles by Neser and Agar A. My local club rep Lloyd Pope did OK (5 out of 5). Loads of runs made (Marnus didn’t hold back) but results still likely with a day to go (the SACA grounds staff have done well it appears). Interesting times.
