Sunday saw the semi final of the SACA A Grade one-day cricket competition, and what a final it proved to be!

In an emotive day at Campbelltown Oval, the East Torrens Reds got the chocolates, but a heroic, gallant, yet ultimately fruitless performance from Adelaide’s Phil Neate nearly stole the show.

Unable to bowl in this contest because of injury, he got so close!

Chasing a modest 173 to advance to the final, Neate came to the wicket with Adelaide on 6-75 and East Torrens sniffing a comfortable win, but in a gutsy effort Neate was the last one dismissed with the score on 170.

He made 44 from 85 deliveries in 101 minutes including five boundaries.

I captured him directly after being bowled in the last over – just two runs short of an elusive semi final victory (top and below).
