Almanac Country Footy: Yeppoon victorious!

We highlighted the mighty Yeppoon Swans last week HERE as they sat poised to break a long-held record for games without loss – at the time in the possession of Heathfield-Aldgate United (now part of Mounty Lofty FC) in Adelaide’s Hills Football League.

Queensland footy expert and former AFL umpire Murray Bird also paid tribute to the club back before this winning streak was even contemplated – but at a time when the Swans were hungry to make amends for their 2014 grand final loss – read more HERE and be sure to peruse Murray’s book with Greg Parker on 150 years of footy in Queensland ‘More of the Kangaroo’ if you get a chance. It can be purchased HERE.

The ABC have reported HERE on the weekend’s historic triumph, in which Yeppoon won their 89th consecutive game en route to their sixth flag on the trot in the Capricornia league.

With the focus of the footy world set to stay in Queensland for at least the next three weeks, it’s always a pleasure to share some of the unique and wonderful happenings at levels below the AFL – a clear favourite of many Almanackers (for good reason).
