Almanac Christmas presents: Santa Claus Deserves Applause

Retired teacher, Andy Thurlow, has turned himself into a writer over the last decade or so, with a number of books currently on the go. He’s been an Almanac member for a few years now. He has just released a children’s book…

Looking for a Christmas present? Running out of time? Under some pressure like Santa Claus?

Maybe this will help …

What will happen to Santa, Mrs Claus, the elves, and reindeer if the North Pole ice continues to melt?  How will they be able to deliver Christmas presents if the sleigh gets stuck, or they have to suddenly cross ice floes and crevasses.

The solution really is quite simple. Move Santa to another country. The reindeer will cope, won’t they?

The answers are found in my kids’ book: Santa Claus Deserves Applause.

My wife Marlene and I are well into retirement, and we are just so delighted at the prospect of, and look forward to, becoming grandparents (at last) early in the New Year. I dedicated my book to ‘Our grandson … and all grand children’. But I’m pretty sure parents and adults will have a quiet chuckle reading it too.

An added bonus is that you all get to search for Greco the Gecko on every double page!

Our daughter and mum-to-be Lauren (aka ‘Loz’) flew over from Canberra recently to spend time with us, and I wanted her to be the first to see her baby’s book. She was very chuffed and I hope Santa Claus Deserves Applause brings you similar joy over Christmas and into the New Year.

Martin Pfeiffer reads to grandies, Ollie and Kenzie.

Sally Pfeiffer (Grandma) wrote : ‘The parade of Aussie animal ‘helpers’, the rhyming (which my kids always love), the great illustrations and the search for Greco had them rapt. Martin and I chuckled at the ending … very appropriate! Congratulations from us both’.

And Trish Handford texted: ‘I read Santa Clause Deserves Applause to our seven-year-old grandson Reid this week. He was totally engaged by the story and we both laughed at the thought of all the different Australian animals pulling Santa’s sleigh – especially the koalas! Though I think his favourite part was to find Greco on every double page. He kept coming back to the book and finding him again and again. A lovely Australian slant on a Christmas story.’

Email [email protected] and Andy will have your copies posted immediately and in time for Christmas. Have a lovely time with friends and family. And all the best for the New Year.

About

Born on Guernsey in the Channel Islands, my parents migrated to this wonderful country when I was 7. As teachers, my wife and I ‘worked’ in some pretty SA and Queensland tourist locations and ended up in the Barossa Valley, where I enjoy gardening, socialising, reading, writing, sport, travel, handyman projects and wine. Since retiring I’ve written 3 published biographies about Kieran Modra, Rolph and Marg Mayer and Margaret Ames. I started a Valley social cycling and coffee-ing club called the ‘Sprocket Rockets’ https://www.facebook.com/cyclingfunbarossa/ After some success at hockey, volleyball, tennis, golf, Church picnic sprints and the ‘Henley on Todd’ regatta, I’ve settled down to walking, cycling, Fantasy Football and watching sport, particularly AFL and cricket. A Queenslander described me as an ‘Ex-Pommie, ex-Victorian who barracks for Port Adelaide’ so it can only be up from there!
