The Footy Almanac is pleased to support the release of Rick Darling’s Bush to Buckingham Palace which was launched last night in Adelaide at the Arkaba Hotel.

Those of us of a certain age well remember the talent, energy, enthusiasm and sense of daring that Rick brought to the game, whether it was for South Australia or in the baggy green for 14 Tests in 1978-79 and 18 ODIs. And what a fieldsman! His opening partnerships with Graeme Wood stay in the memory for their kamikaze-style running between the wickets which certainly raised your pulse rate. Then there were the episodes when he was struck in the head by short balls. Darling’s decade-long first class career may well have been 40 years ago but he is one gf those players who, at the mention of his name, brings a smile to our faces.

  1. Darling Wood mixups!! Remember them well. Rick Darling had the blonde locks and was very much a star in the making.
