Almanac Book Launch: ‘The Lancefield Football Club 1873 – 2023’

The Lancefield Football-Netball Club is celebrating its 150th anniversary this year. Marking this significant occasion, we are proud to launch our history, The Lancefield Football Club: 1873-2023 on Saturday 27 May. Fittingly, our book will be launched at a game against our traditional rivals, Romsey! To mark the occasion, the Lancefield Tigers will be wearing replica jumpers to those worn in 1888 when we won our first flag.

This book has been put together by local volunteers who have a passion for our small town’s history. As you are well aware, football clubs such as ours are often the unifying force in many towns – large and small. The history of the Football Club and the town are inextricably linked, and any profits from the sale of the book will be used to create a professional storage system for our Club (and towns) historical records and memorabilia.

A pre-released version of the book has made its way to numerous interested parties including acclaimed author John Marsden, who had the following to say

“Time for a new Brownlow category-the best and fairest footy book The Lancefield Football Club 1873-2023. So thorough, so beautifully presented, so readable. Lavishly illustrated, bursting with stories. Will fascinate anyone interested in sport, local history… and human beings. They show us so much about ourselves and so much about our ancestors. An utterly remarkable book.”

Copies of the book can be purchased Here

All proceeds from the book are going towards the club and the local Historical society’s storage system for all Lancefield’s footy records and memorabilia.
