Almanac Book Cover 2016: The case for Pav

Pav as Almanac Cover?

Pav as Almanac Cover?

Les Everett has read the various discussions for Dane Swan and Bob Murphy for the cover of this years Footy Almanac and would like to suggest The Big Pav!

Since making his debut in 2000 Pav was a six-time best and fairest winner, eight-time leading goalkicker and was the club captain between 2007 and 2015.

In 2014, he became the first and only player from a Western Australian-based club to reach 300 AFL games.

While not being a GF winner, Pav has left a mighty mark on our game. Perhaps a bit neglected being plonked in the West?

Good choice Les!

  1. and third member of the 350 games 700 goals club

All round legend, can’t think of another player from this season more deserving

  2. Barry Nicholls says

Pavlich should be a cert …imagine if he was from a Vic club…there’d be no debate then

  3. To quote a close personal friend of Les’s from many years ago (certainly well and truly pre Lauren) – then we could all ‘get a piece of sweaty Pav’.

At the beginning of the year I had thought as Freo would be rolling on to the flag about now, Fyfe was going to be a shoe-in for the cover – on reflection, with that scenario, or with reality, there can be non other than Pav surely.

  4. The People's Elbow says

Where do I sign? The perfect choice…

  5. Strong argument Les.
You had me at “The case for Pav”

  6. Phillip Dimitriadis says

Agree with Barry regarding Vic bias, Les and Pav has shown great heart, skill, durability and loyalty through good, ordinary and awful Freo sides. No tatts, no cred…however.

  7. Would send the Almanac broke. Remainder shelves across the country groaning under the weight of purple sentimentalism.

  8. For the last ten years my son and I have always rubbed our noses at each other when Pav has done the exceptional. The red marks will take a year or two to subside.

Robbo, ex-Carlton, now Brisbane is now my favourite AFL player.

  9. Sean Gorman says
  10. I have heard the comment along the lines of “If Pavlich was Victorian he would be more respected/ more highly valued/ regarded as a champion”
Well, the news is – and always has been – that Victorians do regard him as a champion player. And those comments shit me.
But I don’t want him on the cover of the Almanac.

  11. What about Pave and boomer on the back cover arm in arm , both 29..
