A Letter to Santa from a Brisbane Lions Supporter

My two boys last week put in their request to Santa. I know it is Christmas Eve but I thought it is never too late to ask Santa for a few things as a Brisbane Lions supporter. So here is my list of things I want Santa to bring to the Brisbane Lions for the 2015 season.

1. That Leuy and Rich stay injury free and dominate like they should as high draft picks.

2. That Danye Beams and Alan Christensen live up to their reputations and help make the Lions midfield one of the best in the AFL.

3. That the curse of recruiting bad boy Carlton players does not continue with the recruitment of Mitch Robinson.

4. That Micheal Close, Jono Freeman and Jackson Paine become the next Brown, Lynch and Bradshaw.

5. That Michael Voss’s winning percentage when he was coaching Brisbane follows him and continues now he is at the Power.

6. That Pearce Hanley’s brother Cian will be as good a player as Pearce.

7. That Sauce Merrett decides to play football rather that being an enforcer with elbows raised.

8. That we don’t get beaten by 100 points at all during 2015.

9. That the ‘GABBA becomes a fortress again, with sell out crowds and passionate supporters (we need all the money we can get)

and finally but most importantly –

10. James Aish signs a long term deal and says he wants to be a one club player and a life member of the Brisbane Lions.

P.S. Santa I just want you to know that I have been a good boys this year and have tried not to swear after dodgy umpiring decisions, or got angry when Eddie McGuire gets on his high horse about the Lions academy. By the way if you have forgotten where I live I will leave my Brisbane scarf hanging on the front door.

Look forward to you coming through with the goods.

About Andrew Weiss

Andrew is one of the few Brisbane Lions supporters that lives in the Adelaide Hills. He still has bragging rights over any Crows or Port supporter by mentioning the back to back to back premierships the Lions achieved in 2001-2003. After playing for over a decade for the mighty Adelaide Lutheran Football Club better known as 'The Doggies' he now spends his Saturdays running around footy ovals as an umpire, getting abuse no matter what decision is made. Coaching is probably next on the agenda as his two sons have started to play the great game of AFL. Andrew is a sports fanatic who when not watching or reading about sport is teaching secondary students about Biology, Nutrition and Psychology.

  1. Merry Christmas Andrew,

Regarding with Mitch Robinson, I reckon the Lions need to have a mentor both in on and off fields. I hope he grows up well. Then the curse will be killed.

    Cheers

  2. Merry Christmas Andrew,
Love your list. I do however think number 10 is the most important, but think all 10 are essential. The whisper up here is that Leigh Matthews has been spending more time on the training track and is winding up a lot of his media to concentrate on the Lions. Justin Leppitsch tweeted that the old firm is back in town. Can only be good for the lions.

  3. I think 10 wishes might be a bit greedy. Perhaps Santa could settle for the first nine…

  4. Malcolm Ashwood says

Be totally amazed if number 10 doesn’t happen , if number 4 remotely goes close good times are coming for the lions , thanks , Andrew
