Round 10: Saturday 9 May
South Sydney v Cronulla-Sutherland
Sydney Olympic Stadium, 5:30pm
Latrell Siegwalt. South Sydney Rabbitoh number 1218. What a debut, replacing his namesake, out this time due a back injury.
The word is Latrell (Mitchell) will be OK for Origin 1.
2026 is Siegwalt’s first season in the cardinal and myrtle. Signed from the Brisbane Broncos, where he was a Queensland Cup player, Latrell has impressed both Wayne Bennett, as well as the French rugby league hierarchy, as they draft their squad for the rugby league world cup later this year. Siegwalt’s father is of French heritage.
This was a dominant win for South Sydney. Alex Johnston continued his 2026 try scoring spree with a hat trick.
Campbell Graham celebrated his 150th match with a try in the 79th minute of play.
South Sydney had lost five straight games to Cronulla-Sutherland prior to this game and led 30-0 in the 70th minute.
South Sydney now faces the challenge of the Dolphins at Lang Park in the Magic Round. A very tough assignment indeed.
After a magnificent NRL debut, Latrell Siegwalt makes way for the returning Latrell (Mitchell). The Dolphins have attacking weapons all over the park.
South Sydney’s inconsistent defence: great against the Sharks, and the less said about the defence against Newcastle the week before, the better, will be stretched to its limits by Farnworth, Bostock, Tabuai-Fidow, and friends.
The Clive Churchill-George Piggins-Mario Fenech inspirational moment:
The post-match scenes in the stands: Latrell Siegwalt organised 120 match tickets for family and friends. The joy and emotion when Latrell celebrated with his supporters was special.
Honourable mention: Les Davidson, South Sydney player number 714, rang the bell pre-match.
The Rampling Brothers-Ian Roberts-Sam Burgess best defence:
Sean Keppie has certainly played well in the last several games of the 2026 season. Keppie’s defence has certainly gone up a notch. Lachlan Hubner was also responsible for some big hits.
South Sydney’s two smallest players: fullback Jye Gray and halfback Ashton Ward saved tries on much bigger opponents.
The Phil Blake Chip n Chase best attacking moment
South Sydney went the length of the field when Euan Aitken scored in the right-side corner. Alex Johnston and Jye Gray were heavily involved in the lead up.
