Inside a smoky disco
in downtown San Francisco
Diego Maradona
is dancing with Madonna
who’s dressed up as Evita.
They share a margarita,
but when they step outside to vomit
they fail to notice Halley’s Comet.

The famous comet.

Love it, Damo !!
Brilliant Damo!
Recall 7 year old me being slightly disappointed that Halley’s Comet was slightly less spectacular to see than the hype surrounding it.
The hype and expectation around Halley’s Comet was huge and I remember overhearing my cricket captain talking with another senior player.
‘Just as long as this comet doesn’t affect the course.’
“Course? The golf course?’
‘No. The inter.’
1986 was certainly a curious time (like most I guess). Peak Madonna, or as HG called her Mad Donna.
Cheers all.
I too found the Comet a tad underwhelming. My old man was a keen astronomer, who owned a decent telescope, and felt that this event superseded the Second Coming. He took me to various spots around town to best view the Comet. I always left disappointed.
Thanks Damian
1986, my first year of high school teaching. Vivid memories of some things. A blur in other ways.
The Newsreader was set in 1986. Many reminders. Indeed the reminders of the time saved what I thought saved it. And W McInnes.
Cheers

Nice one, DB!
I recall Halley’s Comet only insofar as how underwhelming it was.
