Banners bush footy style as Minyip-Murtoa’s Liam (Newell), Foss Delahunty (Chris) and Pipes Delahunty (Keiran) celebrate milestones with a hard-fought match against second side Horsham, at Murtoa. Congrats to the boys. However, the Burras went down by a couple of goals and sit a game off Horsham, well clear of fourth-placed Ararat, with three rounds to go.
I am hoping to get up to the first week of the finals on the weekend of Aug 29. Anyone interested in the road trip, please give me a yell. [email protected]
From the Burras newsletter:
The Burras game against Horsham was tipped to be the match of the round, with the winning team likely to finish second on the ladder – and it didn’t disappoint. The game was of high quality. The Burras started off well in the first half, playing patches of strong footy to lead at the main break by 12 points. Unfortunately, after putting their feet up at half time, the boys came out a bit sluggish and were outplayed for most of the quarter. Kade Petering did his all to keep the Burras in the game. Some might see Kade as an outside player as he runs the footy so well, but the work he does in the stoppages is fantastic and very team orientated. Coming into the final quarter the Burras were still well and truly in the contest, getting within 2 points. But the momentum changed again at the wrong time in the match and the Demons kicked away to win by 15 points. Warwick Stone was great at centre half back and Blake Young showed glimpses of father Laurie coming out of the backline! Cousins Darcy Cameron and Angus Trethowan, were very strong down back and used the footy well. They were both seen reminiscing about their games later that night at the talent quest over 243 Melbourne Cans. Well done boys!
An eight-game winning streak came to an end on Saturday, but lessons were learnt for an improving Burras outfit. There were a number of milestones on the weekend, with Liam Newell and Chris Delahunty playing their 100th Senior game for the MMFNC, and Kieran Delahunty notching up his 50th Senior game. All three lads have been great clubman for the Burras over the years, all putting into the club in different forms. Congratulations gents!
