Research shows that in the 15 years since the current finals system came in (2000-2014), 19 times have teams won finals outside their home state (*Grand Finals excluded.)
11 of those 19 teams subsequently won a premiership (nine with the same coach.)
12 of the 19 made the Grand Final within the next two seasons (13 if Port make it next year.)
All except one of the 19 made the Grand Final within eight seasons (assuming Port make it before 2021.)
My conclusion(s):
-This bodes well for Brad Scott’s North Melbourne after recently winning a final interstate.
-This shows how close Brett Ratten came to having success with Carlton, barely losing three interstate finals in three years, each by 7 points or less.
