WAFL Round 9 – Point made at the Showgrounds

WAFL round nine…

Delahunty & Wheeler

ANY suggestions about a Subiaco slide were put to rest at the Showgrounds on Saturday. The Lions were simply too good for the Tigers on a day Claremont’s flakey season started to look toxic. Hamish Shepheard kicked six goals for Subiaco and Liam Ryan, in his second game, kicked four goals and took a mark-of-the-year contender. Aaron Heal was notable in defence, mobile big men Lachlan Delahunty and Clancy Wheeler were influential and Max Walters made an impressive debut. Brandon Franz battled the odds in defence for Claremont and Jye Bolton had a great first quarter with two goals and battled on.

Subiaco 17.13 (115) Claremont 11.5 (71)

Top team South Fremantle blew Peel away in the last quarter after a pretty close battle at Fremantle Oval. Ryan Cook enjoyed his 100th game, Ben Saunders kicked three goals, Jake Florenca was good on debut and Zac Strom had a good game. Matt De Boer, Darcy Tucker and Michael Barlow were Peel’s best players.

South Fremantle 16.11 (107) Peel 9.12 (66)

Swan Districts didn’t score in the first quarter against East Perth at Leederville Oval, And they didn’t score much afterwards either. Kane Lucas continued his good form for the Royals, Lewis Jetta did some good things, Tom Barrass was cool in defence and Brant Colledge and Jonathan Giles each kicked three goals. Adam Faulkner battled it out for Swans.

East Perth 17.12 (114) Swan Districts 3.5 (23)

Jamie McNamara kicked five goals in one of the best performances of his career as East Fremantle  accounted for Perth at home. George Hampson kicked four goals in another fine effort and Brett Peake got three. Brock O’Brien gave plenty of run from defence. Callum Walley and Zac Fisher showed a bit for the Demons.

East Fremantle 16.12 (108) Perth 10.9 (69)

  1. Matt Quartermaine says

Appreciate your updates from the wild west Les. Still can’t get used to Leederville being the home of the Royals. I’m old I guess.

  2. Les Everett says

I can’t get used to East Perth being the plaything of the Eagles.

  3. I can’t get used to my Swan Districts having only one win more than the Dockers.
