WAFL – Round 12: Runaway Tigers

Claremont moved even further ahead on the WAFL ladder with a 21-point win over West Perth at Joondalup. Not much went right for the Falcons and for a while in the last quarter a victory looked possible. Ian Richardson and Chad Jones kicked four goals each for the Tigers, John Williams was sturdy in defence and Andrew Foster was superb in the midfield. Matthew Guadagnin was good, as usual, for the Falcons while Mark Hutchings and Anthony Tsalikis each kicked three goals in useful performances.

Claremont 18.11 (119) West Perth 15.8 (98)

Subiaco kicked 7.8 to 2.0 in the last quarter to sink South Fremantle at Leederville and keep their finals hopes alive. The beautifully named Matthew Bogensperger had his best game for the Lions and the highly promising Michael Woods kicked four goals. Sean Tighe was again good in the ruck for the Bulldogs.

Subiaco 15.16 (106) South Fremantle 7.1 (53)

It was tight at East Fremantle Oval until the last quarter when the home team kicked five goals to a point. Tom Howlett was inspiring in in defence for the Sharks and Rob Young showed his importance to the team. Viv Michie had another good game for the Thunder.

East Fremantle 14.7 (91) Peel 8.8 (56)

Ladder: Claremont 40; West Perth 24; Perth 20; East Fremantle 20; Subiaco 20; East Perth 20; Swan Districts 16; Peel 12; South Fremantle 8.
