Superdogs lick their wounds

The Riverland Superdogs’ winning start ended with a heavy loss to a classy and skilful Adelaide Uni Greys at Lyrup Oval on Sunday. Injuries and illness to key players did not help as the hosts went down by 94 points.

Adelaide Uni had a number of ex-Division One amateur players but Kenny Karpany kicked a superb super-goal early in the second quarter. The brilliant Karpany then drilled a 60-metre bomb on the run, bringing the boisterous crowd to their feet.

Brenton Fenwick continued his consistent form and brother-in-law Ben Meuret gleefully accepted an assist from Fenwick that resulted in a major. Peter Hoffmann showed plenty of steel in the ruck with a competitive effort. Uni played the corridor and had players in support that culminated in goals more often than not but Sam Ingerson toiled hard against the Greys’ frenetic forward forays.

The charismatic Shane Hannagan defied his injuries he is carrying with a gutsy performance. The Superdogs play Portland in Adelaide from 12.30pm on Sunday, May 20.
