Sat’dy arvo footy – June 25th

It’s not just AFL players who anxiously awaited tribunal calls this week. There have also been some celebrated, even unfortunate cases in suburban and country comps.

The comical one was down on the peninsula where a player got a week for dropping his dacks and saluting the crowd!

Less amusing was a reported brawl in the SWFDL (South West etc) involving fans and players after the draw between Westerns and Dartmoor.

And, still unresolved to my knowledge, a quarter time melee at Maribyrnong Park sent Keilor’s ex-AFL recruit Marty Pask to hospital with severe concussion and injury. Marby subsequently suffered another unexpected loss and will need to regain confidence this Saturday when they visit Oak Park, themselves surprise losers last week.

In EDFL B-Grade Moonee Valley and Jacana players will head to the ground with a little more spring this week as the strugglers realize that one of them will at least get to sing their song before the compulsory imbibing at the sociable Ormond Road clubrooms.

In the EFL Blackburn host Noble Park and Knox visit Balwyn in the most anticipated battles of the round.

Spotty and Albion play a top of the table match under the West Gate in WRFL A Grade whilst in B Grade James Condos will get his season’s ton as Deer Park host Wyndham Vale.

There’s even an old-fashioned “VFL”/AFL MCG game this Sat’dy arvo as the Tigers and Demons supporters, in their remarkably distinctive ways, face off for 2011 relevance.

For the most part, going to the footy is a safe and enjoyable family activity – I guess that is why exceptions are still noteworthy. But it is true to say that, from midgets to Masters, there’s plenty of passion at whatever level you attend.

Enjoy your Sat’dy arvo at the footy.

Comments

  1. regarding the EDFL, local gossip suggests that Pask had a swing at an ex-Keilor bloke but didn’t nail it. His Marby opponent landed his retaliation and thus a quarter time melee ensued. Tribunal tonight!

  2. Towner (Marby) got 5 for striking (presumably Pask of Keilor).
