Round 7 – Haiku Bob – blank spaces
autumn glare —
the sun wraps itself around
our players’ throats
sloppy defence —
the sun slips through
broken branches
the bits of this ground
with their own importance —
Murphy leaves his mark
three-quarter time —
a huddle of coats
laying bets
migrating birds —
waiting for the comeback
that never comes
dwindling crowd —
the final siren engulfs
blank spaces
making light
of this latest defeat —
full moon

About rob scott
Rob Scott (aka Haiku Bob) is a peripatetic haiku poet who calls Victoria Park home. He writes haiku in between teaching whisky and drinking English, or something like that.
I suppose I should be grateful for everybody who contributed to the premiership in 2010, so we have one in recent memory, unlike clubs less fortunate than ourselves. But it seems to me we are the author of our own ills, thinking the good times will last forever when we finally achieve success.
So here we are, 1999 revisited, going to the footy in the sunshine without great expectations. It was a great Melbourne day, except for the result…
artful.
haunting.
thanks haiku bob.
