Round 5 – Essendon v Fremantle: Good place, good song, go Bombers!

I don’t know much about Fremantle
I’ve never been there
People say it’s good
I like their song
It’s where
we beat America

On Footy Day at our primary school
Only one kid went up the front for the Freo song
She had a real Freo jumper
Her uncle was the coach
She got the loudest cheer

They helped us get Scott Lucas and his raking left foot
And also, Mark Harvey coached them until
that bloke from St Kilda turned up

Other than that, my mind goes blank
I can’t recall them ever beating Essendon

One time we played them in a final at Docklands
My son Joe was 4 or 5
He fell asleep early in the last quarter
I carried him all the way back to the train
It felt like he weighed 30 or 40 kilos
even though we won.

You can’t bottle confidence. Essendon by 22 points.

  1. David Zampatti says

Then they’ll shake their heads and squeal
‘Cos they know that it’s for real
The hour when the ship comes in.

(And Freo’s where we LOST the America’s Cup. And thereby hangs a tale, I guess…)

  2. Cheers David.
That second half was tough to watch.

We’re the rollers we’re the rockers
    We’re the mighty Freo Dockers
We’re gonna role them and we’ll rock em
We’re gonna send them to the bottom
