Round 22 – Sal’s preview: Penultimate preview

Greetings All,

Let’s get straight to the footy!

Ratt Attack ($2.74) vs Oh Joe ($1.56)

Brisbane responded perfectly to the loss against the Tigers, correcting many of the weaknesses exposed.  They do have a major concern though with Joe Daniher.  His lack of form is an issue, however his lack of competitiveness needs to be rectified.  Got away with it against the Blues but exposed the week earlier.  Could win a final off his own boot just not enough consistency in his game.  They visit the Saints in the Loungeroom who need everything to go perfectly to be playing in four weeks.  They are not without a chance as the Lions have been spasmodic at best away from home and they need to be desperate.  The venue holds no fears for the Lions winning their last four here.  The manic Saints don’t come out too often but reckon Ratts might get them to produce this week and keep the dream alive.

Play it Again Sam ($1.21) vs Thumbs Down ($5.50)

The Dogs-Giants rivalry has huge connotations for one team and the other would love to stuff them up.  Sam Darcy certainly showed plenty and looks set of a long career.  The Bullies must win both games to have a chance to play in September, GWS are seeing out the season and now have Toby Greene in cotton wool for 2023.  Dogs back in the Loungeroon with so much to play for should win this.

Back on the Charddy ($1.19) vs Ben ($6.00)

It’s been a tough year for North and not helped that their heart and soul has been battling illness throughout.  How much better will they be with Ben Cunnington back in the team – so good to see him back!  The issue is they head to Adelaide who have dealt with emotional matches brilliantly the last two weeks and are in good form.  That form expected to be too good for the Roos.

Sunset ($4.30) vs The Top Seed ($1.30)

The dream for the Suns is over for 2022, 2023 looks promising just for the fact that Ben King returns.  This week they go through the motions against the Cats who are just rolling onto September and this will be a speedbump of little consequence.

Deescending ($1.39) vs Unendowed ($3.50)

Was looking forward to this matchup all year – thought the Blues had the midfield to match up and the structure to test the premiers.  Injuries have hobbled the match up and some very ordinary efforts have deflated any hopes.  Paddy Dow one paying the price for the loss last week.  The Dees are not playing consistently, but the Blues are just playing poorly and suspect they will be dangling by a thread for a hope of finals late Saturday Night.

Purple Haze ($1.13) vs The Corporation ($8.00)

West Coast have sent off Josh and now have the grudge match, derbies can throw up odd results and the Eagles would love nothing more than to upset the Docker’s finals plans.  Fremantle though have dominated this match up in recent times and will be too focused on the job at hand to drop this one.

Noah’s Arc ($1.37) vs The Other Ben ($3.65)

The Tiger’s have unearthed another beauty in Noah Cumberland who looks like he will be right at home up forward next to Tom Lynch.  They take on the Hawks who will be bidding farewell to the skipper over the next two weeks.  What great service Ben McEvoy has provided to the Hawks after crossing from the Saints.  Too much on the line for the Tigers to drop this one.

I Zak ($1.39) vs The Duck and the Dinner ($3.45)

Swans will celebrate Isaac Heeney’s 150th against the Pies on Sunday, what a terrific player he is!  The Pies removed any doubts on their credentials last week and love nothing better than a win on the road.  So nothing would surprise here with satchel-swingers again getting this market wrong.  However as an out and out selection the Swans are healthy and at home so are the selection.

The Heppy Heppy Shake ($1.86) vs Couldn’t Kill Kenny ($2.14)

A bit tawdry what is going on with Dyson Heppell, has provided great service to the Bombers and seems like his days are numbered.  As did Ken Hinkley’s after an exclusion from Kochie.  All sorted now and Kenny keeps Port for 2023 – assuming he wants to.  A Seinfeld game now and suspect the Bombers might win this.

Go Blues, Go Friars

Cheers, Sal

  1. That “Duck and the Dinner” is going to last the rest of the season, isn’t it?
