Round 20 – Collingwood v Port Adelaide: F-Word marks the spot

It’s the F-word that has three different meanings, maybe four for Port Adelaide Power and Collingwood Magpie supporters.
The F-word for the Power and Pies faithful may be used in different context.
Finals and ‘f— yeah’ for the Collingwood Football Club and something more rude and crude for Port’s players, coaching staff and supporters.
Oh, and frustration is the other word for all who are attached to Port.
The Magpies prevailed in an enthralling contest at a cold but sunny MCG 13.10 (88) to 12.10 (82) on Saturday afternoon.
‘F— another close loss against a premiership contender’, would be the catch-cry among Port’s fanbase.
All on the back of a mixture of exhilarating football in the first quarter by the Power which sliced with dash and dare to open the Pies up on way to a 25-point lead.
As Collingwood have done so well this season – and in its tenth win in a row – the team wore Port down and kicked eight of the next nine goals to lead by 21 points just before three-quarter-time.
The Power, led superbly by Sam Powell-Pepper and the light-footed and classy Connor Rozee, staged another comeback and even had the chance to draw the game.
As so often in the crunch moments, a series of errors presented the Pies to ice the game in Port Adelaide captain Tom Jonas’ and Brownlow Medalist Ollie Wines’ 200th games.
As painful as another close loss was, the class and composure of Jase Burgoyne included a pressure goal deep in the final term was a massive positive.
Miles Bergman continues to grow at AFL level and he used the ball well as did Lachlan Jones.
Zak Butters played one of his best games for the Power in a game where some of the umpire decisions were questionable at best.
Frustrated Port coach Ken Hinkley said the game typified the club’s season.
“It’s the season that we’ve had this year…been close but not good enough,” Hinkley said.
“Our results where we have not been able to win, has put us exactly where we are.”
In all honesty, Collingwood supporters had every reason to be ‘effed’ off with many of the decisions.
However, another close loss by Port, has the Alberton Crowd using the ‘F’ word in a ‘what could have been theme’.
