the witches hats
that lined the roads here
now on the field
dead leaves
stepping right through them –
Pendlebury
a pie in one hand
beer in the other
and beating Carlton
rushing to the toilet
Carlton supporters
heading for the exit
the beleaguered coach
scolds his players
wintry moon
winter mist . . .
disappearing one by one
Carlton supporters
Saturday hangover
the soothing sound
of magpie song
