winter chill –
the shock
of a shock defeat
thick sky
the coach’s message
not getting through
sun between clouds
I have a bad feeling
about this

sinking further
into the couch
shorter days
we start playing well
too late
sometimes
even Pendlebury
is not enough
loss to bottom team
the problems of the world
fade to nothing
bare trees
the coach says
we’ll bounce back
