Round 1 – Haiku Bob: sliver of light

first game
premiership players return
to just being footballers

back to reality
an autumn leaf lands
with a thud

slow start
the setting sun
slinks away

rippling through
the expectant crowd
away goals

first stars
the holes
in our defence

another fumble
I tighten my grip
on the beer can

cresent moon –
Daicos the only
sliver of light

round one defeat. . .
a few autumn leaves
among the champagne corks
