Cronulla-Sutherland v South Sydney
Shark Park
Saturday 3/8/24, 7:30pm
Games of the 33rd Olympiad, Paris, Day 8.
The heats of the men’s 100m were underway in the Stade de France, the magnificent stadium (hosted World Cup finals, World Athletics Championships, now an Olympic Stadium) as the Bunnies ran onto Shark Park in the Shire.
Worth noting: in the preceding ‘Super Saturday’ match, St George-Illawarra did what Souths have never done – that is, beat the Storm in Melbourne and, earlier, the Titans had thumped the Broncos to heap more woe on Kevvie’s boys.
Could Souths somehow conjure a miracle at Shark Park? Sadly, but not surprisingly, no.
As Glenn Munsie tweeted:
“It hasn’t been a stellar year for my Rabbitohs, but tonight’s effort rates as one, if not their worst of this season so far imho”
Glenn, I could not agree with you more!
Souths sit in 15th place, seven wins, 12 losses, for and against of minus 124.
Back to Paris for this South Sydney football club member.
The Clive Churchill-George Piggins-Sam Burgess inspirational moment:
Not awarded. Inspiration this week is in Paris.
The Phil Blake chip n chase best attacking moment:
Cook’s dart down the blind side in the first half, along with the only try Souths scored, to the dynamic fullback Jye Gray.
The Rampling Brothers-Les Davidson-David Boyle tackle of the match:
Jye Gray on Royce Hunt. A 33kg weight difference – the Cronulla prop at 112kg to 79kg for the Souths fullback. No one can ever question Gray’s effort and commitment in defence.
Full time: Cronulla-Sutherland 20 d South Sydney 6
Souths points: tries (1) Gray 6’, goals: Myers penalty goal 29’ (1/2)
Souths line up: Gray, Fletcher Myers: NRL debut, Rabbitoh 1201, Milne, Kennar, Gagai, Wighton, Teaupa, Moale, Cook, Keppie, Murray (capt), Host, Koloamatangi, bench: Chee Kam, Havili, Burgess, Duncan.

If you didn’t watch much of the Bunnies last weekend, Rabbit, you’ll want to give them a total miss this week against the Storm! It helps to keep us humble. (I say ‘us’ because my Broncos are in just as much of a pickle.)
Souths have fallen off a huge cliff – we beat the Storm in Magic Round last year – before the wheels fell off.
My favourite Mitchell – Shaquai – is on the bench tonight
