I’ve been going through Nanna’s photos and folders of letters and other papers and I’ve made some ripper discoveries.
If you can name these two blokes, you’re doing very well. Who are they?
Clue: the combined age of the three of us when this was taken at a lunch on the Gold Coast in 2002, was 221 years.

Is that Ken Trewick on the left?
On second thoughts Ken wouldn’t have been old enough at the time.
Swish, not Ken Trewick.
Qld cricketers ? Ron Archer – Sam Trimble – thanks JTH
Nope.
I reckon one of these three played Test cricket for Australia and VFL football.
Is one of these three an ex jockey?
Yes PJF, the young one is a Test cricketer and VFL footballer. The older one is not a jockey..
is the young one Sam Loxton?
Not Sam Loxton.
Clue: He was 99 when this pic was taken and he lived for another 5 or so years.
The old bloke on the right is a runner whose name escapes me. He was winning world titles in his age group in t his 90s
He came to the Keilor Gift when he was about 95 got into his gear and strode down the track in full flight before we ran the final
the crowd loved it
wonderful man with great stories to tell
OH DEAR
Who was he
but maybe i am off the mark anyway
One of these three is George Tribe.
Correct PJF.
And HK, you are on the money. I’ll leave it hanging for a while, but offer the clue that, when I went looking for the oldest surviving player to play for NOrth Melbourne in the VFL, this bloke did not qualify, because he played on the wing for North BEFORE THEY ENTERED THE LEAGUE. I was lucky enough to catch up with him a few times over a couple of years. Yes, he had terrific stories.
Peter
i reckon you are correct
George Tribe to John’s right and I am convinced the other bloke is a runner
Hayden has possibly given me a leg up.
I think the other one is Charlie Booth.
Stawell Gift winner and inventor of starting blocks.
Correction.
He didn’t win the 1939 Stawell Gift.
Well played Gents.
It is in fact Charlie Booth. I’ll dig out the story.
I think you two would enjoy lunch together.
Too good Peter beat me to the punch
I had a light bulb moment this morning and remembered Charlie Booth
