MCG Test, Australia v India: Call for cricket writers

Melbourne Test 2014. Australia v India.

Do you expect to watch any Test cricket in the next week?  Here’s a call for writers and observers of the human condition. Nominate a day (or any combination of days) in the comments below to assist in covering each day of the Third Test at the Footy Almanac. Though surprise entries are very welcome.

Never written before? Not a problem. On school holidays? Perfect.

About David Wilson

David Wilson is a writer, editor, flood forecaster and former school teacher. He writes under the name “E.regnans” at The Footy Almanac and has stories in several books. One of his stories was judged as a finalist in the Tasmanian Writers’ Prize 2021. He shares the care of two daughters and a dog, Pip. He finds playing the guitar a little tricky, but seems to have found a kindred instrument with the ukulele. Favourite tree: Eucalyptus regnans.

  1. It’d be a thrill for me to write up day one – today I secured tickets for my first ever in-the-flesh Boxing Day at the MCG.

  2. As usual I will be at the “G” for yet another religious experience and will file a report for historical purposes on each day.

This will allow me to retain my seat in the Press Box!!

  3. Malcolm Ashwood says

    Saturday Please OBP

  4. Luke Reynolds says

Might cover most if not all days. Boxing Day on the the couch. Day 2 & 3 at the ‘G. Can’t wait.

  5. Tom – that’s already the start of a great story right there. Looking forward to your thoughts.
Bob – that’s terrific. Let us know if you need a hand watching that Press Box seat.
    R Book – With pleasure.
Luke – It’s a special time of year. And it’s Christmas, too.

    All welcome. Step right up…

  6. I will be there on Days 1 & 2, e.r.
It will be a stretch to get Mrs Smokie to agree to Day 3.
Will contribute if I don’t end up spending too much time in the Bernard Callinan Bar.

  7. Mick Jeffrey says

Prefer Day 2 but will try to get something on Day 1 as well.

  8. Grant Fraser says

If you still need something I have two traditions – Day 2 in the Members dining room with my big kids and Day 3 with the boys from school…let me know

  9. Smokie, Mick, Grant – good on you. Stories are itching to escape from those brief messages. Terrific responses and interest.
Please choose whatever works best for you.

Plenty of room for unique stories & points of view on this world wide web.

  10. I’d like to do day 1 from the couch, might (probably) be a bit hungover from Christmas Day.

  11. The cricket stories have already started.
“Marsh hit during MCG net session” (Search for E Regnans to resume at first light).
“Watto felled” (Police interview 5 million suspects).

  12. Malcolm Ashwood says

    Only 5 million, PB ?

  13. Got me-self a ticket for Day 3 & will aim to write a little somethin’.

  14. Grant Fraser says

How do we get the stories to you? I have the email of jth if that helps?

  15. G’day Grant,
The best way is probably to
    1. register for the site – using the aptly named “site registration” link (above left)
    2. logging in
    3. adding a new post

PB – Aware that SE Marsh almost improved his average today in a near-chanceless knock.
