John Prine – Singer songwriter great dies of Covid-19
Just learnt that John Prine has succumbed to complications due to Covid-19 and passed away at age 73.
Although I never saw him perform live, I was certainly a fan of his music, particularly in recent years.
Here is an excellent article written by Tom Piazza for the Oxford American magazine a couple of years ago.
Here’s a couple great You Tube clips featuring some recent songs of John’s.

Thanks for that…..great piece; poignant but full of joy
Hopefully he’s having a drink with Sam Stone.
Col, I have a nasty feeling this won’t be the last of these artist eulogies, the way things are developing in the States, and elsewhere.
Very sad. What a legend!
RIP John Prine.
Very sad and gone too soon. I was lucky to see him live at the Hanging Rock Folk Festival back in the early 90’s I think it was.
And again at the Americana Awards in Nashville in 2018, if only for a few songs.
I was hoping to see him this year, as he was due to come for the Byron Bay BluesFest. Alas not to be.
Thanks Colin, that’s a fantastic essay. Down to earth, decent and a sly wit. Great read. So sad, John Prine passing. One of music’s treasures. High up in Cohen’s Tower of Song. Cheers
