It’s the Sharks and the Tigers

WAFL preliminary final…

EAST FREMANTLE will play in their first grand final since 2000 after a strong preliminary final win over Swan Districts at Bassendean Oval.

The Sharks got on top during the second quarter and took their lead out beyond six goals before a Swans fightback that got them within 13 points early in the last quarter.

Bradd Dalziell was very important in East Fremantle’s good start with his hard running and ball winning ability, Mark McGough was solid in close and Koby Stevens was another part of a strong midfield. The Sharks also got good contributions from youngsters like defender Brad Cooper, wingman Sean Henson and Dockers Cameron Sutcliffe and Sam Menegola, who kicked two goals. Brad Dick (pictured) kicked three goals and Brock O’Brien booted 2.7 on a day when East Fremantle’s inaccuracy was again a factor.

Ryan Davis kicked five goals for Swan Districts, Wes Lammie was magnificent in the ruck, Tom Roach used his pace in the midfield and kicked two goals, Lachie Neale was very impressive after a slow start, defender Justin Simpson marked well and Marlon Motlop used the ball well.

The Grand Final next Sunday will be between Claremont and East Fremantle. In round three East Fremantle beat Claremont by 34 points; in round 19 it was the Tigers by 92 points.

East Fremantle 13.23 (101) Swan Districts 11.8 (74).

Old Easts to feature in all three GFs, Les – after a clean sweep in the prelims.

Everything seems to be coming good. Yesterday’s big royal blue sky, hooped and wreathed with white clouds, promised footballing goodness. Tomatoes will taste of tomato soon. The sun will be sunnier. Hand shandies will be the order of the day.
