Crio’s Racing: After the Goldrush

Punters will be flyblown after another pounding out at Sandown last Saturday….good meeting, good crowd, good results for the bookies. Looks like we’ll be back to the old regulars when we front at the Valley this Saturday and have to hope that Ballarat drags a Carnival crowd when we pitch our stand at their Cup meeting on Sunday.

It’s tough to stay upbeat once the circus leaves town and, pressed for time, I’ll make this brief but encourage any other tipsters.

Though still promoted as a Super Saturday, Ascot’s meeting may be a victim of their own hyperbole, with perhaps the second tier staying away, fearing the Cav and other luminaries were going to be dazzled by the riches on offer. Always a good meeting, the acceptances are a letdown given the extended propaganda. The good jockeys, though, are still lining up, with C.Williams red hot and ready to extend his extraordinary winning Spring across the Nullabor. I’d be happy punting him and W.Pike all day.

Back in Moonee Ponds it is a typical early summer meeting with a tough Quaddie. I’d open with 1,2/4,7,10/F and then spend a lot of time on the last – easily the best race of the day. My inkling is for 4 from 3 but watch the racing pattern.

Ballarat’s Cup meeting on Sunday has very big and mostly moderate fields. I’d wait to see the weather and track bias unfold before making a commitment…maybe E/W Red Buttons @ 16/1 in the Cup for the reliable Mick Kent and Dean Yendall combination.

Good luck.

  1. Dean Yendall has put more money in my pocket than a lot of other jocks and its good to see him doing well in the city as he has no peer in the bush and isnt afraid to travel

  2. I had a great weekend (last) on the chaff burners last weekend. Great success from the Rawlings pacing stable at Stowport in N W Tassy.

Invested a modest outlay on ‘ orse man uer’

Big return at five to one.

The garden is looking great, it has a wonderful rustic appeal and every chook in the neighbourhood is around for a scratch.
