Player Ratings (Includes Pakistan matches in Dubai and T20 World Cup)
9.5- Shane Watson Averaged over 42 with the bat over the 9 games with 3 half centuries. And 14 wickets. Outstanding form,
hope he can take it into the Test arena. Loses .5 for his semi-final failure.
8- Mitchell Starc Also took 14 wickets but in 8 games. Impresses every time he bowls, has pace and movement, probably
now first fast bowler picked in this format.
7.5- Pat Cummins 11 wickets and handy runs when required to bat. Great in T20 but hope Test cricket is the selectors priority
for him.
7.5- David Warner Consistent throughout until fading in the last 3 games. Impressive half centuries against Pakistan in Dubai
and India in the World Cup. Always brilliant in the field.
7- Mike Hussey Also consistent throughout, single handedly got Australia to the semi-final with his unbeaten 54 in the final
super 8 game against Pakistan. Still has plenty to offer.
6.5-George Bailey Like many of the Aussie middle order was starved of opportunities but contributed when needed. Played a
lone hand with his 63 in the world cup semi final. Captained well, big summer ahead for this fringe Test
player.
6.5-Xavier Doherty ignored for much of the tour, played the last 3 games, taking 5 wickets including 3/20 opening the
bowling against South Africa. Should be first spinner picked next time Australia play T20.
5-Ben Hilfenhaus only played game 1 against Pakistan in Dubai then was completely ignored despite taking 1/18 off 3
overs. Baffling considering his brilliant T20 form in the IPL in similar conditions to Sri Lanka.
4.5-Cameron White Also starved of opportunities as a middle order bat, a couple of good not outs to win games but otherwise
didn’t do much. Needs some good performances to stay in the team.
4.5-Matthew Wade Didn’t get to bat much but when he did struggled. Not easy batting at no.7 in T20. Kept well.
4- Brad Hogg Bowled reasonably tight but without the zip he showed whiled bowling for the Perth Scorchers last
summer. And only took 3 wickets in 8 games. Won’t be picked again. Watching him bowl I often thought
that if the selctors wanted a 40+ spinner for the T20 world cup then SK Warne should have got the call.
Warney still has an aura around him despite losing alot of zip to his bowling. Unlike Hogg.
3.5- Glenn Maxwell showed alot in the ODI’s against Pakistan but struggled in the T20 format. Even his usually brilliant
fielding was down by his standards.
3-Dan Christian Once again struggled at this level. Would have to do alot at domestic level to get back in the Aussie team.
2-David Hussey Arguably Australia’s greatest ever T20 player struggled against Pakistan and was ignored in the world cup
until the semi final where he made a duck and took 0/22 off 2 overs. At his age may not make it back to this
team and could be restricted to the One Day team where his form is still very good.
Clint McKay was in the squad but didn’t play a game.
Not a great tournament for the Vics.
Matthew Wade, not much to say, didn’t get many chances with the bat, though serviceable behind the stumps. I feel he should be retained as our test keeper; no point returning to Haddin.
Cameron White is really at the cross roads, maybe needs to return to bowling more regularly. His power hitting id not getting the chances he requires, though when he bats he rarely gets a chance to make a big impact.
Glenn Maxwell, to me his tournament was summed up by his performance against Pakistan. He has youth on his side, so let’s see how it goes.
David Hussey, unfortunately does not have youth on his side. He’s been a damn good T20 cricketer, and if this is the end of his international T20 career, not a finish he should be remembered by.
Clint McKay, should get more chances this summer.
Glen!
