Another heart-stopper for FIDA Tigers

The FIDA Tigers’ hearts must be made of stern stuff. In Round 1 the seniors lost at home to Williamstown by a point when the Seagulls goaled on the siren. A few weeks later the reserves defeated Williamstown in an away game by seven points in a thriller. Last Sunday the seniors played a heart-thumping draw at home against Kananook.

The visitors had the best of the first quarter, kicking four goals to one to have a 19 point lead. Wyndham bounced back in the second, holding Kannanook goalless and  going in at the main break with a six point lead.

There was nothing separating the teams at three-quarter time. Kananook kicked the first goal of the last quarter and looked to have the legs to go away. But Wyndham came back strongly and with two minutes to go held a seven point lead.

A free kick and a penalty down field resulted in a goal for the Bulls. A rushed behind tied things up and the siren sounded shortly after with both sides locked on 10.6. (66).

“After last week’s horror game against the ladder leaders Williamstown the Tigers played some great wet weather footy,” said Tigers coach Paul Barrett. “We looked to have turned the corner with some great team play. “

“I have coached a lot of games but this was the best game of football I have seen,” said Bulls coach Paul Newman. “Wyndham was unlucky not to win. Our boys didn’t give up and played some good football. I guess we got out of gaol in the end.

“Many thanks to the Tigers for a terrific game.”
