Malarkey Publications and the Almanac have been planning an e-magazine of longer stories from its squad of talented writers for some time. These are stories of insight and humour.
Well, we’re ready to announce the title:
Long Bombs to Snake: Stories from Australian Sport
I reckon it was Neil Anderson who came up with the initial suggestion, and it grew from there.
There will be three issues of The Bomb this year. The first one will be out soon – just putting the finishing touches on it. It contains about a dozen yarns. Stay tuned.
Pre-subscriptions are available through many of the options in our crowdfunding campaign. DETAILS HERE.
Or contact John Harms for more info.

That title got my vote. Glad to see it’s stuck.
To see you refer to the shortened version about the three issues of ‘The Bomb’ in typical Aussie style, it looks just right for future reference.
The under-fifties might need a refresher course on Ron Barassi and Snake Baker 101.
Love it…
Neil, Always good to have a curiosity factor. We are telling the story of LBTS inside.
Can you spot it on the cover. (bottom right of course)
A beautiful set of instructions that can’t be misunderstood. “” Straight down the guts when we can- Long bombs to snake. “
Can’t wait to read about LBTS when I get the first edition.
Love it.
Title sounds fantastic.
Design looks fantastic.
Can’t wait to read.
I’m definitely going to have to buy an iPad now
Well, well, well. How thrilled I am that the e-magazine
is named after one of my all-time favourite players, Phil “Snake” Baker.
I will never forget Brent “Tiger” Crosswell and “Snake” prowling the
goal-square in those glory days at Arden St.
Imagine that! A snake and a tiger in the goalsquare!
He was never an automatic selection:
played plenty of reserves games. When he was not selected in the 1’s
it was mandatory to get there early to see him put on a show.
Phil Baker took “hangers” just for fun
Steve Baker of Almanac Podcast fame…….aka “Snake” down at Melbourne Superules…..I nominate you as the inaugural electronic centrefold!
CB, I appreciate the vote of confidence, but we want people to read this thing, not recoil in horror as they reach the centre of the mag. Those scars would never heal for some folks!
