Almanac Teams: Drafted brothers who never played a game
This side is based on players who were brothers of VFL/AFL players, but themselves never played a game.
Please note some of the position in the side are based on the brother’s position.
This team is done since the draft came in 1986 as realised it may be hard to look up lists prior for teams that had brothers play reserves or U19s. I am still interested to hear of any others though. I have included a couple of examples at the end.

Ta Rod. I reckon Josh Houlihan may have been named a few times on an extended bench, though cut when the final team was announced.
On to the next point.
My mind goes back to the late 70’s, early 80’s VFA period where Geelong West were a good side. They included the Wells brothers, Greg & Stephen Wells.
Greg played four senior games for Geelong, two in both 1972, then two more in 1973. His solitary goal was in his debut match against Richmond at Kardinia Park in R 2, 1972. Now I’m trying to ascertain if Stephen played reserves at Geelong. He’s been their long time recruiting guru, but…… I saw quite a few games in the late 1970’s but I’m stumped if he was in the ‘magoos’.
Is anyone the wiser?
Glen!
Thanks Glen
The Footy Records are online on the State Library website. I couldn’t find Stephen in 1978-80 but they only have one game per round, so he may have played on a different round.
I did see he played for Geelong West, West Adelaide & Southport

Some good names here Rodney.
Is Troy Polak the greatest footy card of all time given he never played a game?
Darren Fraser was around for a long time to not play a game. He looked good when I saw him play for the Collingwood reserves.
Remember watching George Gorozidis star for Sandringham in the latter years of the VFA.
And Brian “Barney” Hinkley- a legend of a local footballer, and as good a fast bowler as I’ve faced in local cricket, McGrath like, sharp, full and accurate, bounce off a good length from his height.
Polak would have to be, imagine a collector getting the card now and wondering why he has a card.
If not for knee injury Fraser would have played some games.
