Almanac Teams: Arrivals and Departures (Sydney)

This year for football teams I have gone back to a theme. A team of Arrivals and Departures at each club. I hope the teams go down well.

The criteria for each team

  • Based each team of players from 1980 onwards;
  • Have tried to put a player in from each of the remaining 18 teams, including Fitzroy on most occasions;
  • Have tried to be as balanced as possible, though the interchange regardless of balance will be next best four players;
  • The player is based on from previous club and to immediate next club;
  • Stats are based on the club and for arrivals, the immediate club before and for departures, the immediate club after;
  • The Arrivals team is based on the performance at the club, while Departures is based on the performance at their new club.

If I’ve missed anyone, please advise, and please enjoy.

The highlights of the team are.

  • How strong the arrivals are with legends like Paul Roos, Greg Williams, Lance Franklin, Tony Lockett, Gerard Healy, Paul Williams, and Josh Kennedy
  • No arrivals yet from fellow Sydney team GWS
  • From my count there are 50 players that just had one year at Sydney including Bradshaw, Russell, Osborne, Brereton, Allison, and Edmond.
  • I also counted seven players that came back to Sydney like Capper or went back to their original club like Jayson Daniels
  • Sydney also seems to have many players that featured at four clubs (I counted six including Richard Osborne) or three (I counted 35 such as Greg Williams)

  1. Mark ‘Swish’ Schwerdt says

    I’d be very surprised if the Swans Arrivals team wasn’t the best (on paper) of the whole series Rodney.

  2. Agreed Swish, that midfield-forward combination is out of this world

  3. Thanks Swish & Jarrod
    Definitely Agree the Swans arrival are the best for the impact they have on the club.

  4. Malcolm Rulebook Ashwood says

    Rodney extremely strong re arrivals personally from hearing from players how vital – Stuart Maxfield was re installing the blood’s culture he gets my nod as skipper he is spoken of in revered tomes – Nic Fosdike said he was the one who said we aren’t going to except thrashings and drove the bus re lifting training standards and in general behaviour

  5. Thanks Malcom your probably right. I just went Barry as he was a premiership captain
