Almanac Rugby: Super Rugby Pacific Round 9

Hurricanes 53 v Moana Pasifika 12
Blues 27 v Crusaders 23
Reds 36 v Rebels 32
Chiefs 42 v Moana Pasifika 12
Hurricanes 22 v Highlanders 21
Waratahs 41 v Force 24

Poor old MOANA PASIFIKA had to front up twice this round to make up the games missed earlier in the season. They were never really in either game and duly got flogged.

The heavyweight clash in Christchurch lived up to expectations. For the first time in almost 20 years the BLUES flew home with bragging rights. They were solid throughout the game and repelled the classic CRUSADERS post-break momentum that almost took the game away from them early in the second half. The Aucklanders confirmed their contender status.

On several occasions the REDS looked set to run away from the REBELS on Good Friday. The newly acquired spirit of the Melburnians is keeping them in contests. Melbourne hosts every team as part of Super Round next week so it’s important the local team shows some gumption, as they’ll need it in spades taking on the Crusaders.

Another day, another nail-biter across the ditch. The HIGHLANDERS only have the one win but they are still a formidable force at home. The two teams went at it hammer and tongs with the HURRICANES taking the Easter chocolates.

Last cabs off the rank in Perth, the TAHS came out of the blocks and scored 4 tries in quick succession before the hosts got their game going. The FORCE seems to have lost its way in recent weeks after such a promising start.

Finally we get trans-Tasman action underway next round with the 6 game showcase at AAMI Park. Hopefully, it will bring the competition alive and energise rugby fans.

About

Grew up playing the rugby codes in suburban Sydney. Moved to Melbourne during the Carey era so becoming a Shinboner was the natural call. Still love the game they play in heaven. Took an interest in MLB a few years back and have become infatuated with America's pastime.
