Almanac Racing – VRC Members’ Stakes

I could, and have, begun with a sarcastic swipe that this is a big week in racing as VRC Members apply for ballots to sundry trophy spots in Grandstands and Carparks for Cup Week. Coincidentally, the media have leaked that Winx might make her HQ debut this Spring. She might be the sole link between horse and flogs during the Carnival.

Meanwhile, there’s actually a good race at Caulfield on Saturday, uncharacteristically not over-rated by its G3 status. The Bletchingly Stakes (MR8, 1200m, WFA) commemorates one of Australia’s most influential sires and a critical carrier of the Star Kingdom bloodline. Unfortunately there are too many variables to make this a punting race, but it’s a must watch. Forced to tip, you’d have to go with Supido. Lankan Rupee’s been to the top of the tree and the money is usually right. Eyes will be on Chocolate Holic, Keen Array might be the odds with the cushy run and Ability is on notice as to Spring prospects. Really good field. Looking forward to it. Unexpectedly, I’ll be there, managing the Awesome Bet stand (I’m not kidding) near the main bar on ground level. That should allow me to keep up to date with footy scores and any incoming tips.

Internationally, “Glorious Goodwood” is next week – I don’t know anyone who’s been there but the reputation of the Carnival is very high.

Any feedback welcomed.

Good punting and good luck!
