Overwhelmed by other options, racing continues this weekend. This mightn’t be a bad scenario for the RVL, who’ve finally handed down the long awaited cobalt penalties and, it is fair to say, most publicity at the moment hardly paints our sport in good light.
The suspensions come as no surprise but the collateral damage will be hard to limit as the inevitable appeals push through the courts. If the shambolic Mark Riley case is an indicator, there’ll be more questions towards the prosecutors than the defendants. Those sensing an O’Brien holiday might have been on board the huge and successful plunge on Bullpit in the last at Flemington on Saturday?!
Calendars are a little confused with the public holiday on next Tuesday. Hanging Rock, for example, runs on Saturday (as do Yea and Yarra Valley – with Great Western on the Sunday), whilst Balnarring sticks to the 26/1. All are highly recommended with a big asterisk insisting on fine weather.
Unless you are an avid punter it is fair to say that the most attractive offerings are the more exotic – King Island or Kingscote, Tumut or Thangool.
I’ll be at Moonee Valley on Saturday wondering if my remarkable run of seconds can continue. Stoically, the straight out bet will remain a staple (where are those concession bookies!?). It is Australia Stakes Day but the support card is hardly worthy of a second glance. The feature (MR7, 1200m, WFA, G2) is very interesting. Rebel Dane is an uneasy fav and those “down the bottom” will attract specs. Plenty of value on offer…by my schedule, it’ll be Friday night when the form guide will get a good study (with Sth Africa v England on the TV) and I’ll be looking for some advice.
Good luck!
I’m intrigued the Hanging Rock meeting is moved to the Saturday. We’ll be @ Yea on Saturday.
Glen!
Track conditions will be interesting tomorrow, it’s currently like night time in my Pirie Street office and we are in the middle of a thunderstorm so I reckon the track will be affected here tomorrow and maybe you will get the same in Melb.
I’m pretty keen on Koroibete in the last at the Valley, goes very well 2nd up, mile suits and if wet that’s also fine, I thought it ran on really well first up and there appears to be plenty of speed in the race.
Beau Rada will be hard to beat in the 8th, also a rain affected won’t hurt.
I don’t really like the Adel fields but if it’s looking like a slow track then Unspun in the 2nd last is a great roughie as it likes those conditions but the pattern will need to be for run on horses.
Buckets of water this morning but Valley can cope. Rail +3. What pattern?
at 3 m, should give them all a chance, when it gets to 5+ I only want to be on leaders if it’s a good track, when it’s wet it’s a lottery
The luck is running our way. Bel Dancer saluted again, this time at Wangaratta on Thursday. Syndicate very pleased with the $6.90 and $2 on Vic tote. Knuckled a little at the start, got into a reasonable position but was still 5 or 6 off the leaders at the 400. Steamed home to get up in the last stride. Nearly a stable double when Mannerene ran a good second in the second last. Not sure where to next but it’s always exciting when they are in form.
Like Our Harmony at Moonee Valley tomorrow. She also has connections in the Albury district and her mum, Pantenny, won a couple in the city. Good luck to all.
Well done Andrew. I remembered up until Wednesday.
Damn.
Good for you
It’s wet up here in the sticks. The last Yea meeting was called off because of the heat, with a fear of fires, however will today be on/off with the opposite weather conditions. Ok, off to the car we go, then we’ll wind our way to Yea. If it’s on, a review is on the cards, if it’s not on, off to the club for a bevvy and a bet.
Happy Punting,
Glen!
Dreary here too Glen. No sign of forecast clearing skies. Concerned for Balnarring on Tuesday, which can’t cope with rain
The weather cleared for a red hot leaders track at MV
Yep Crio, once past Pheasant Creek, it was fine. A pleasant day at Yea.
Glen!
G’day Crio. Are you off to the Great Western meeting ? If so, what is the good oil ?
Glen!
Glen. Did you note Adam Bodey’s comeback and win in Balnarring Cup today. 6/4 pop *SP$4
G’day Crio. No , i thought Adam’s sole focussed now was training .
A picnic, and at times professional, hoop i haven’t seen for a while is Paddy Kelly. He rode up Lockhart, Harden, etc as well riding fairly regularly at Yea, but he seems to have gone off the radar. I’ve not seen his name for a while.
