Almanac Racing

Perth’s Ascot hosts the million dollar Winterbottom on Saturday (R8, 1200m, WFA, $1m, 8pm Vic time – switch over from the cricket!) and there are some entrants that mightn’t be out of place at the snobby “Royal” English namesake. Terravista and Mallaguerra head markets but there’s some depth to the field. Tipping the 2.

Hopefully WA can hype things up and deflect from the calamities that make racing news over here – good old Bill Vlahos this week! I’m rostered for The Valley where the talented (and novelty) Miss Vista will attract attention in an uncustomarily good $80k BM4 R3. The other quirky (and possibly very good) entry of interest is in the 7th, Little White Cloud. His Flemington win, first up for 3 ½ yrs, was remarkable. This is a serious talent – but 2nd up is a massive query, as is the Valley.

Globally it is Japan’s turn to shine on the weekend. Sunday’s Cup, a mile and a half @WFA, is world class.

Punters should stay focused at this time of the year. Fields are skinnier but the quality is OK. I reckon it is a good time to bet and am happy to take tips on board.

Good luck!

  1. Second meeting in a row with the rail true, so would expect them to be swooping well off fence like Cox Plate day.

Think it may be Vezalay’s day, blinkers go back on and stays at 1000m.

Have taken the early odds at Rosehill R7 High Midnight.

Hope Malaguerra can pickup another G1 and add further residual value to a 2yo filly I have an interest in- both hail from the ‘Tennessee’ family and share the same 3rd dam – Misty Vain.

  2. Gary Moore sure knows how to celebrate. Incredible scenes as Takedown wins the Winterbottom
