Almanac Poetry: Holiday

Holiday

We’re on the verandah
of a holiday cottage
in the middle of sunlit
native bush.
Below us, bees hover
around lavender,
their buzzing a sweet, warm
musical haze.
We’re drinking lush, buttery
chardonnay,
sampling an antipasto platter
entirely of local produce.
Last night, we made love.
Tonight,
after a gourmet meal
concluding with chocolates
and black Spanish sherry,
again we’ll be naked, spent,
dreamy.

This will never last.
