Almanac Music: New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival 2024

The line up – what a cracker!
Once again, and this year with Meryl joining me, I’m lucky enough to be off to New Orleans in April/May for the annual New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival (JazzFest) with Brian Wise and friends.

I’m even more excited now the music line-up was announced a few days ago for the eight days of the festival, and it’s a cracker!
To whet our appetites the organisers announced late last year The Rolling Stones as the headlining act for this year’s JazzFest.
Travelling from overseas, or for that matter within the USA, flights, accommodation, and tickets need to be booked as soon as possible in advance or else you may miss out. This is one of the world’s most popular music and cultural festivals with attendees coming from all points of the globe. Committing to attending the festival has to be done before the headlining acts and programme is announced in January but the organisers always come with the goods and this year is no exception.
Among the major acts I’m looking forward to seeing are, of course, The Rolling Stones, for the first time since they appeared at Kooyong in 1973, Neil Young and Crazy Horse, Rhiannon Giddons, Roy Rogers and The Delta Rhythm Kings, and many, many more from the hundred plus artists performing this year. Some of the big names announced, although not my cup of tea such as The Foo Fighters, The Killers, and others will still attract large crowds there. Also the fantastic contingent of Louisiana musicians will be a treat to witness once again.
And of course there are all the magnificent clubs with incredible music of all genres to visit at night after JazzFest, and the buskers around the French Quarter create a wonderful atmosphere to enjoy.
The Spotted Cat on Frenchman is one of my favourite music venues.
The music on the streets is as good as you will hear anywhere

A seriously good line-up for sure, Col. You and Meryl will have a great time.
As you note, Foo Fighters are not in your wheelhouse, but I must say that I have never seen a frontman work a crowd of 100,000 people like I saw Dave Grohl do at the Leeds Festival in 2019.
