Almanac Music: More New Orleans JazzFest 2022
The New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival for 2022 is over, but the sounds of this great festival linger on in the recordings below. Some of the clips are of a good quality while others are not so good, however they all reflect the atmosphere and feeling of the presented music of JazzFest. Much of the music is recorded at the actual festival site from the many stages within the venue. Others are recorded at evening events in local clubs after JazzFest is finished for the day.
The clips I’ve selected are of artists I would have like to see perform if I’d been there, many I’ve seen at previous JazzFests. Some clips feature renowned local artists who are heralded in New Orleans but often not be as well known elsewhere.
Mavis Staples is one of music’s great artists and a regular performer at JazzFest
Tuba Skinny spend much of their time busking the streets of the French Quarter but are also one of the premier traditional jazz bands in the city.
You don’t realise how huge an artist Jimmy Buffet is until you come to New Orleans and see the reception he receives from his fantastic music.
Paul Sanchez is a well respected local musician.
The Nevilles Brothers are legends in NO. For many years they had the honour of closing JazzFest. Unfortunately, some of the brothers have passed away in the last few years.
After JazzFest finishes each day at 7pm, music lovers then flock to the clubs in the French Quarter, most remain open until sunrise. The Preservation Hall have what are called the Midnight Preserves where surprise artists from the festival are featured to play with the The Preservation Hall Jazz Band in the small, intimate setting. Here’s Pete Townsend playing NO’s theme song.
The Preservation Jazz Band and guests with a rousing rendition of the most famous and popular song of New Orleans.

Good stuff, Col! New Orleans is certainly on my bucket list, mainly for the trad jazz.
