Almanac Music: 2022 New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival – First weekend

This weekend and the next, along with a group of Aussie music aficionados, I’d planned to be in New Orleans for the 2022 New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival or JazzFest as it is commonly known. However, our group decided to to pull out of the trip due to the uncertainty with regards to Covid-19 in Louisiana. The state at the moment is just over 50% fully vaccinated and our group decided it did not want to take the risk of catching Covid or any arising medical expenses.

To compensate, I’ve compiled a collection a clips from the first weekend of JazzFest. I’ve mainly presented acts I may have seen if I had been there. The quality of some of the clips reflects how they were taken but give an authentic feel to the festival.

This is the trailer to a movie about JazzFest coming out shortly. Gives a fab overview of the festival.

Some zydeco music from Rosie Ledet on the Fais Do Do Stage, one of the many smaller stages at the festival where specific musical genres are presented

The Economy tent is where the more traditional jazz is presented.

Death Cab For Cutie on one of the many stages at JazzFest.

Some more traditional jazz from the Shake ‘Em Up Jazz Band

And if you have a spare hour on your hands here is a walking tour around the French Quarter of New Orleans during The French Quarter Festival from a few weeks ago. It gives you a real feel for the historic nature of the area.

Check out the website for JazzFest which gives a detailed account of who, where, and when acts are performing on the various stages, and other interesting aspects of the festival Here.

Thanks for those clips Col. I watched a lot of the walking tour of the Quarter and it brought back great memories. I hope to get back there for another Jazzfest.
